Do I need to send the original marriage certificate?
Yes. We need the original document and a signed Vollmacht. You receive the form once we take on the work. The Vollmacht does not need to be notarised.
How long does the apostille process for a marriage certificate take?
Once we have the original document and the signed Vollmacht, we begin handling. The authority usually completes the apostille within two to four weeks. In some cases, it may take longer. We cannot influence how long the authority takes.
Do I need a recently issued marriage certificate?
That depends on the destination country and the purpose of submission. Some authorities accept older documents, while others require a recently issued copy. If a new marriage certificate is required, obtaining it can be ordered as a separate service (145 €).
Is the marriage certificate sufficient if my name changed?
A marriage certificate can document a name change. Whether additional proof is required depends on the specific procedure and the foreign authority.
Do I also need a translation?
That depends on the destination country and the authority where you will submit the marriage certificate. Certified translations are not included in the fixed price.
What if an additional Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage is required?
A Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage is a different document from a marriage certificate. If you need documents in addition to the marriage certificate, please describe this in your request. Multiple documents and special cases are reviewed separately in advance.
Is pre-certification required for the marriage certificate?
In many cases, a German civil-status document can be apostilled directly. Depending on the federal state, the document form, or whether the authority has the necessary signature specimen on file, an additional intermediate step may be required. If pre-certification is needed, we arrange this separate service for 95 €.
Which countries require an apostille on a marriage certificate?

How do I send you the original document?
You can drop the original off in person at our Bonn office, send it by post or DHL, or arrange courier collection on request. We need the original document and the signed Vollmacht for the apostille.
What happens after I send a request?
After you send a request, we review it and get back to you. You receive the Vollmacht and the instructions for sending the original once we take on the work. We begin handling once we have both the original document and the signed Vollmacht.
